The RP2350 datasheet (12.14.5) says: set DIRECT_CSR.EN, then poll BUSY until it is low, before the first direct-mode transfer. BUSY stays high while an XIP transfer is in its cooldown. The Pico SDK waits here too. rp23xx_psram_detect() did not wait at the two places where it enables direct mode. It worked on the boards we tested because the cooldown ended before the first chip select. Add the two waits, and put the BUSY loop in one RAM-resident helper.
